Viridis Laboratories continues to promote patient and consumer safety amid MRA litigation

LANSING and BAY CITY, Mich. — Viridis Laboratories, the leading provider of cannabis safety and quality testing in Michigan, continues to focus on using the safest, most accurate testing methods to ensure the safety of patients and adult-use cannabis consumers.

The Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA) on Tuesday surprisingly declined Viridis’ request for mediation to resolve pending litigation over the MRA’s unjustified and retaliatory recall of cannabis tested by Viridis. This comes after the Michigan Court of Claims on Friday struck down over half of the recall for being too broad.

“Sadly, the MRA has refused our offer to work out remaining issues through mediation, so we’re left with no choice but to press on with litigation,” said David Russell, attorney with Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith, P.C.

The recall announced on Nov. 17 is the largest in state history and represented an estimated $229 million in cannabis products. Viridis is the only cannabis testing laboratory in Michigan that is patient-focus certified through Americans for Safe Access. It has tested roughly 250,000 pounds of cannabis this year and has not received direct notice of any health complaints.

“While our team has worked tirelessly to test and retest cannabis and get products safely back to market, we’re disappointed to hear that the MRA has been unresponsive to many of our inquiries and slow to help licensees get retested product released from ‘holds’ in the state’s licensed cannabis tracking system,” said Viridis CEO Greg Michaud.
